Reliable for upgrades

I've used Seatfrog a few times now, mainly for LNER upgrades. This time I got a First Class upgrade for my trip from London to Edinburgh. It worked just like before, no surprises. The bidding process was smooth, and I got a good deal compared to booking First Class directly. It's consistent, which is why I keep coming back for my longer journeys.

Easy upgrade, comfy ride

Grabbed a First Class upgrade on Avanti West Coast from Euston to Manchester a couple weeks ago. It was super easy to do in the app, just put in my bid and I got it. The seat was comfy and I even got some free biscuits, which was a nice surprise. The whole process felt really smooth. Didn't have any problems at all.

Good value for money

I was looking for a good deal on a train ticket to Manchester and found Seatfrog. I managed to get a Standard Premier upgrade on Avanti West Coast through an auction. I saved a decent amount compared to what the ticket would have cost normally. The app was easy enough to use to place my bid. Definitely felt worth the purchase; I'll check it again next time I travel.

Mostly good, but delivery was slow

I bought a flexible train ticket for a CrossCountry route and also bid on a First Class upgrade. The bidding part was quick, and I won the upgrade easily enough for a decent price. However, receiving the digital rail ticket took longer than I expected. It wasn't immediate, which was a bit stressful closer to my travel time. Customer support was helpful when I contacted them about it, confirming it would arrive, which it did. The quality of the upgrade itself was great, but that delay in the ticket appearing in the app was a slight snag.

Easy upgrade process

So I had a train ticket from Leeds to London and decided to try to upgrade. Heard about Seatfrog, downloaded the app, and just tried bidding for a First Class upgrade. It was pretty simple, honestly. I won the bid for a good price, way less than what regular First Class costs. The whole thing was pretty straightforward and made the trip nicer.

Quick upgrade, decent price

I bid on a GWR upgrade from Paddington. Won it for a good price. Digital ticket worked fine. Wish more routes were available.

Quick, decent price

Needed a last-minute upgrade for Great Western Railway. Used Seatfrog. Got a First Class upgrade. Paid a fair price. Easy to use the app. No issues at all. Made the journey much more comfortable.

Good upgrade, minor app issue

I used Seatfrog for an LNER upgrade from London to Edinburgh last month. The bidding process was straightforward, and I managed to secure a First Class seat for a pretty reasonable price, definitely less than buying it direct. The extra space and complimentary snacks made the journey much more comfortable. I liked being able to see how many people were bidding. My only small issue was the app was a little slow to update the auction status right at the end, which was a bit nerve-wracking. Overall, a solid experience and good value, but the app could be a tad snappier.

Hey, anyone know if Seatfrog is legit? Like, is it actually a real thing or some scam?

T Tim H. 2 weeks ago
Yeah, totally legit. Used it a bunch of times on LNER and Avanti. Never had an issue.

J Jacob S. 2 weeks ago
It's real, don't worry. They partner with the train companies directly. I was skeptical too at first but it worked fine for a GWR upgrade last month.

Can you use a railcard when you're bidding for an upgrade? Or is it just for the original ticket?

M Megan Smith 3 weeks ago
Nah, the railcard discount applies to your original standard ticket. The upgrade price is usually a separate thing, not eligible for further discounts from a railcard.
2
E Elizabeth Smith 3 weeks ago
I think you can't. The upgrade cost is separate from your original ticket, which is where your railcard discount would come in. It's an extra on top, not part of the initial fare, if that makes sense.

how early do the auctions usually open before the train leaves? trying to plan a last minute trip next week.

J Jeff L. 4 weeks ago
From what I remember, they usually open a few days before, sometimes even just 24-48 hours. It's kinda last minute for sure.

B Brittany Wright 3 weeks ago
It varies, honestly. I've seen them pop up anywhere from a week out to the day before. Just gotta keep checking the app for your specific train.

Got a referral code from a friend for £5 off. Where do I even put that in the app?

J Jacob 1 month ago
You enter it when you're making your first upgrade purchase, I think during the checkout process before you confirm your bid or buy it now.
3
M Melissa W. 1 month ago
Yeah, it's usually prompted when you're about to pay for your first upgrade. There should be a field for 'promo code' or 'referral code'.

Has anyone had to swap their ticket on Seatfrog? Is it a pain or pretty straightforward if plans change?

J Joseph Nguyen 4 weeks ago
I swapped a ticket once, it was actually surprisingly easy. Just followed the steps in the app. No big drama.

K Karen E. 3 weeks ago
It's decent. Not as clunky as some other train apps. As long as you do it before your original departure time, it usually goes through without too much hassle. You might have to pay a difference if the new ticket is more expensive though.

Thinking of trying Seatfrog for a trip from London to Manchester. How does it compare to just buying a first class ticket directly on Trainline or Avanti's site?

A Amanda Scott 1 week ago
It's often WAY cheaper. I've saved like 50-60% sometimes compared to what Avanti was asking for First Class. It's all about catching a good bid.

A Alex Flores 1 week ago
Directly is usually full price. Seatfrog is for last-minute upgrades, so you're often getting a bargain. Definitely worth checking if you're not set on First Class from the get-go.

Does anyone know if Seatfrog works for Eurostar tickets? Or is it just for UK domestic trains?

T Thomas Torres 1 week ago
Only UK domestic trains, dude. No Eurostar options on there.
4
S Susan S. 1 week ago
Pretty sure it's just for the train companies they list like LNER, GWR, etc. Not international stuff like Eurostar, sadly.

Hey guys, is Seatfrog legit? Or am I gonna get scammed trying to bid on an upgrade?

E Ella 1 month ago
Yeah, it's totally legit. Been using it for ages, never had an issue. It's just a way to get last-minute first class seats cheaper.
3
M Melissa W. 1 month ago
For sure, it's not a scam. Think of it like an auction for spare first class seats. The train companies work with them, so it's all above board.
